OHMS Civic Club
Akron Chapter meets at the Akron/Summit County Public Library - Downtown Akron (Room 1) on the 3rd Sunday of each month.
Next meeting will be November 16th at 2pm. Bring your own refreshments.
The OHMS Civic Club is the community heartbeat of the Ohio Music Scene. It’s a network of local chapters — beginning with the Akron Chapter — dedicated to bringing musicians, fans, historians, and preservationists together to celebrate and sustain Ohio’s rich musical heritage.
Each Civic Club operates like a grassroots arts organization:
Community Outreach: Hosting local meetings, listening sessions, and “OHMS Nights” where members can share music, stories, and history from their own towns.
Preservation & Archiving: Gathering flyers, recordings, photographs, and memorabilia for the OHMS Archive Foundation, ensuring Ohio’s music history is documented and remembered.
Support & Collaboration: Connecting artists, venues, and fans to create opportunities for live shows, collaborations, and cross-city events.
Education & Involvement: Encouraging younger generations to get involved in the arts through mentorship, zine projects like OHMZINE, and community radio initiatives.
Joining the OHMS Civic Club means becoming part of a statewide movement — a revival of local pride and artistic connection across Akron, Canton, Cleveland, and Youngstown. Whether you’re an artist, archivist, fan, or supporter of local music, there’s a place for you in the OHMS Civic Club. Contact us if you are interested in starting a chapter in your city.
Together, we preserve Ohio’s sound — past, present, and future.
